On July 16th in Monterotondo Cantes will perform “iTaglia” – a live show with music, videos and skits!
We are called CANTES (“Cantautori Equo Sostenibili” – “Equal, Sustainable Singer-songwriters”).
We are a non-profit Cultural Association, formed by musicians. We actively collaborate with artists who are interested in the project.
Our main objective is to create a thriving Movement: a flow of original music to restore the old meaning to the Italian term “canzone”:
music as an art form with the power to change society.There is plenty of Italian music that is simple amusement, and there’s nothing wrong with that; we certainly don’t claim to be better than anyone else.
We want to present an alternative, putting on shows that are enjoyable and of high quality while delivering messages that can be an impact on society.So, we create and present music events in which certain social, political and cultural themes are incorporated.
During a typical event, the artists play together onstage, creating different musical nuances while executing seamless performances.
It’s not a lineup of typical folk singers – by “singer-songwriter” we really mean music authors: the songs are new material.
The style of music ranges from folk and blues to rock, pop and jazz.Appreciation of original music has dwindled in the past few years here, as the media does not exactly embrace the concept, and neither do the live music venues.
We are trying to change that.The audiences so far have been wonderful, responding to the musical talent and the ironic quality of the shows.
On July 16th Cantes will perform “iTaglia” for the third time in the main square of Monterotondo, a town not far from Rome.
“iTaglia” is a play on the words Italia (Italy) and “taglia” (slash/cut).
The theme of the show is the condition of young people today – in a country floundering in financial debt, where the future is uncertain.Cantes has also produced several videos, which are presented at the shows, viewable on this youtube channel.
